The band initially shaped in 1996 by previous Cardinal Tooth vocalist Janne "JB" Christoffersson, bassist Mats "Fox" Skinner[2] and first drummer Iggy under the name 'Smack'. Mid 1998 saw Iggy leave the crease and substitution Fredrik "Trisse" Liefvendahl join as a reaction to an advert for the empty drummer position. An adjustment melodic way managed the mythical name change to the more well-suited Grand Magus.
