Bondy is the previous lead vocalist and guitarist in the musical crew Verbena, which he established in the early 1990s. After the band separated in 2003, he recorded his presentation solo album, American Hearts, in a barn near his home in the Catskill mountains in Palenville, upstate New York.[1] The album, released in 2007, marked a move musical way towards an increasingly traditional and minimalist society sound,[2][3] with Bondy playing generally acoustic guitar and harmonica.

Devotees is the third album by people artist A.A. Bondy, released September 13, 2011 on Fat Possum Records.[1] The album was recorded at Mant/Extra large Studios in Glassell Park, Los Angeles in the spring of 2011 and delivered by Ransack Schnapf.

Turn magazine gave Devotees a score of 8/10, calling it an album of "misleadingly austere alt folk...ludicrously stunning, vaporous, and reverb-caressed, similar to the quieted, almost unbearable intimacy of pre-fame Cat Power.

A.A. Bondy is actually the original name (the initials stand for Augeste Arthur) of Scott Bondy, the previous lead artist of Birmingham, AL's Southern grunge darlings Verbena, much of the time compared to Nirvana because of their lumpy, aggressive sound and Bondy's searing vocals. The band, which also initially included drummer Les Nuby and bassist Daniel Johnston, was shaped when all three were in secondary school in the early '90s. Later vocalist and guitarist Anne Marie Griffin joined the trio, at that point called Shallow. Nuby eventually left the gathering and was replaced by original Remy Zero drummer Louis Schefano, and after a name change to Verbena, the band released the EP Pilot Park on Union. Nuby rejoined the band a year later in time for Verbena's presentation full-length, Spirits available to be purchased, which caught the ears of Dave Grohl, who agreed to deliver the band's major-label debut, Into the Pink.

Johnston left the band, making Verbena a trio by and by, and it was as a trio that Verbena recorded their third album, 2003's La Musica Negra, before calling it stops. Bondy retreated to his Catskills home in Palenville in upstate New York and in time began composing melodies again, developing with a stripped-down non mainstream society sound. He recorded and blended his presentation solo album, American Hearts, at a barn near his home, releasing the venture in 2007 on the Superphonic engrave. The album was gotten by Fat Possum and re-released early in 2008. A second Fat Possum album, When the Fallen angel's Free, appeared in 2009.
