Less than one week after the release of his new single, “Numb Numb Juice,” ScHoolboy Q took the stage on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to debut another new song titled “Chopstix.” The song first leaked on September 29, 2018 as part of a larger unauthorized release of TDE material. It originally featured Kendrick Lamar, but it appears to now contain Travis Scott vocals. Both “Numb Numb Juice” and “Chopstix” are presumably set to appear on the rapper’s upcoming album.

There’s no official release date (or even title) for Q’s new album, but the rapper promised at the end of his performance that the project is set to drop “very very very very soon.” It’s been nearly three years since the release of his fourth album, Blank Face LP. It appeared he was preparing to release the new album last year, but ended up delaying it after the death of his friend and collaborator Mac Miller.

Rodeo is the debut studio album by American rapper Travis Scott. It was released on September 4, 2015, by Epic Records and Grand Hustle Records.[1] The album features guest appearances from Quavo, Future, 2 Chainz, Juicy J, Kacy Hill, The Weeknd, Swae Lee, Chief Keef, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Young Thug, Toro y Moi and Schoolboy Q, while the production was provided by Scott himself, alongside several high-profile record producers such as Allen Ritter, Mike Dean, Metro Boomin, Frank Dukes, Sonny Digital and WondaGurl, among others

Rodeo was supported by two singles: "3500" and "Antidote". The latter became his highest-charting single in the US Billboard Hot 100 at the time, peaking at number 16. The album received generally positive reviews from critics and debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200. It also debuted at number one on the US Rap Albums chart. In May 2017, the album was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Rodeo received generally positive reviews from critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream publications, the album received an average score of 64, based on 15 reviews.[13] Roger Krastz of XXL stated, "Overall, Rodeo has plenty of bangers and noteworthy collaborations that help bring out a fantastic trap sound that could bleed into the mainstream of hip-hop in no time."[23] Jason Bisnoff of HipHopDX stated, "Rodeo's back end after "Antidote" begin to mesh together and gets repetitive.... Nonetheless, the originality of Scott's sound within this new movement provides for a strong rookie effort leaving the listener excited for a career that is just getting started."[17] Trazier Tharpe of Complex stated, "Travis Scott made an enjoyable album for his fans peppered with undeniable bangers for his detractors."[16] David Jeffries of AllMusic stated, "With Rodeo, Travis Scott becomes a designer drug."[14] Steve "Flash" Juon of RapReviews.com stated, "Somewhere beneath all the hype and production he does shine through."[20] Martin Caballero of The Boston Globe stated, "His versatility, combined with a high-profile guest list, conspires against him; among 14 tracks, Scott conjures just a handful of moments that hint at untapped reserves of talent."[24]

Matthew Cooper of Clash stated, "Yes, the production is razor sharp, the beats are skewed and often very loud which makes them feel important, but in reality, it's all a façade; an image."[15] Kevin Ritchie of Now stated, "Scott goes for spacey sounds, stoner vibes and vocal filters, but despite the eclecticism, he's too elusive and bland for Rodeo to amount to a stylistic--let alone a subversive--statement."[18] Sheldon Pearce from Pitchfork stated, "He is most effective when he harshly distorts his vocals to create texture, and in the company of others he can serve as a welcome change of pace."[19] David Turner from Rolling Stone stated, "Left on his own, Scott can grow tiresome. "I Can Tell" sounds monochromatic without another voice to push this astute curator. Some rock stars are better leading bands than going solo."[21] Matthew Ramirez of Spin stated, "This is a cold, calculated record lacking in personality, though it certainly tries to deliver something that Scott is incapable of."[22]

The wait for ScHoolboy Q to press "CHopstix" into a single is finally over. Truth to be told, this Travis Scott duet isn't the direction Q fans would have chosen for themselves had they been given creative control, but that's not how they do things over at TDE Incorporated. At this point, we can safely assume that Travis Scott's reverberated form is probably his last point of evolution.

Then again, "CHopstix" isn't entirely displeasing either. The duo teased the song in its embryonic form on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, then paired it with a solo rendering of Q's "Numb Numb Juice" from few a weeks ago, pushing his work rate to 2 bambinos in 3 year's time, minus the spot appearances.

Before you run drive yourself mad with chopstick metaphors, remember that Q is never one to play his cards too early. You might recall hearing Kendrick in place of Travis Scott on the initial demo leak. Hold your horses for the real giddy-up showing in the unknown future.

Last month Schoolboy Q released a new single called “Numb Numb Juice.” The track follows his Blank Face LP, which came out about three years ago. He debuted a new Travis Scott collab, “Chopstix,” a few weeks back on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show. Today, he releases the studio version. Travis’ autotuned, slightly ominous (a la Astroworld) influence sets the mood for Schoolboy to play around with.

Schoolboy planned to delay the song’s release due to Nipsey Hussle’s death earlier this week, writing on Instagram, “Nobody should be putting nothing out this week. I’m not putting out music tomorrow — it’s not cool.” YG shared a similar sentiment yesterday about a surprise single. But despite Schoolboy’s intentions, Spotify shared the single today. You can listen to it below.

After dropping “Numb Numb Juice” earlier this month, ScHoolboy Q has debuted another new track. Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the TDE rapper performed a medley of “Numb Numb Juice” and a new, previously unheard track titled “Chopstix.” The new single appears to feature additional vocals from Travis Scott, although he wasn’t present for the performance and hasn’t been officially confirmed as a collaborator.

Following the performance, ScHoolboy Q added that his upcoming album — his first since 2016 — was set to release “very very very very soon.” Take a look at the medley performance above, and keep an eye out for an update on the project in the near future.

In light of Nipsey Hussle’s death earlier this week, Q had sought to delay the release of “CHopstick”. He told fans in an Instagram Story, “Nobody should be putting nothing out this week. I’m not putting out music tomorrow — it’s not cool.” Unfortunately, it seems as if Spotify didn’t get the memo. Whether or not the track ends up getting pulled remains to be seen. Update – April 5th: And the track has been taken down — at least temporarily.

Regardless, “CHopstick” comes on the heels of Q’s “Numb Numb Juice”, which was released last month. Presumambly, both tracks appear on the Black Hippy rapper’s long-awaited Blank Face LP follow-up, which is expected later this year.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show last month, ScHoolboy Q previewed a new Travis Scott collaboration called “CHopstick”. Now, the studio version of the track has been released in full. Take a listen below.
